When talking about fairly traded products both spellings are used. The word Fairtrade is used by the Fairtrade Foundation while the more usual Fair Trade is a more generic term. We aim to use them both in their correct contexts but may not always get it right!

Celebrating World Fair Trade Day

Haworth Fairtrade Village Group held a Fairtrade Café event at the Old School Room to mark World Fair Trade Day on May 10th. Fairtrade refreshments and cakes were available and entertainment included storytelling and music assisted by Doreen and Maureen Haworth’s famous tea ladies with proceeds going to support the conservation of the Old School Room.

The event contributed to the re-establishment of the Old School Room back into community life.  “The Old School Room was built by Patrick Brontë in 1832 to serve the community, a role it continued and fulfilled throughout its life, up until a couple of years ago,” said Dr Angela Redmond, Project Development Officer at the Old School Room.  “It is our aim to restore the building as a valuable community resource, and we intend that this will be the first of many events.
