Minutes of Haworth Fairtrade Village Steering committee 19-06-06 Fleece, 7pm
Present: Rita, Chris, Judith, John, Ross

Apologies: Paula

  • A Fairtrade stand was run over the Haworth 40’s Weekend outside Sonia’s Smile. Mainly run by Ross and Keepa with Lorraine Clarke from Haworth Youth Hostel, her children and Judith. Sale and sampling of Fairtrade products and awareness raising.
  • World Fairtrade day was on 13 May 2006. There was a stall in Main Street and window display of materials on the theme of child labour. Fairtrade samples were also distributed.
  • We have a stand booked for the Haworth Gala on August Bank Holiday weekend, combined with the Machu Picchu twinning group. Tools for Africa may also join in. Anyone who can help please keep some time spare that weekend
  • Janak and Shefali will be in the country soon. We will be looking to see how we can involve them in any Fairtrade events.
  • The Fairtrade postcards are going to be sold as promotional tools at all future events.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Funds remain healthy! Sampling on World Fairtrade Day materials cost £25. We still have £835 in the bank.
  • There are now 195 Fairtrade towns. Who will be the 200th?
  • Update website. More local news to be generated for the web site. A decision was taken not to pursue the idea of the postcard competition.
  • Next year’s Fairtrade Fortnight will now be the 26 February to the 11 March 2007.
  • In Bev’s absence a report was received that Fairtrade plans and activities at the school are still progressing well.
  • Spar. A follow up letter will be sent to find out what the current situation is. Action: Rita. It was noted that the Coop in Oxenhope has increased the range of Fairtrade products sold.
  • Fairtrade signs – the idea is still being pursued.
  • It was suggested that we should have a diary of annual events to assist planning activities. One will be prepared and added to the website and used as a planning aid
  • Farmer’s Market. There is a suggestion that a Farmer’s Market may start in Haworth in the near future. This may take shape fairly quickly.
